This seminar will focus on two key strands of the recently released Home Office White Paper, 'Protecting the public, supporting the police to succeed' - improving the level of trust between the police and the public and reinforcing police accountability. Sessions will focus on the public perception of crime and the next steps for community policing including Community Contracts which will set out what residents can expect from the police and local authorities regarding crime and anti-social behaviour. The seminar will also examine whether accountability can be improved at police force level by strengthening police officers, and requiring senior police authorities to hold regular meetings with the public.
